A global collaborative approach

Mölnlycke is a world leader when it comes to understanding and preventing pressure injuries. The company has pioneered this area over many years by taking a truly global and collaborative approach as to how and why pressure injuries occur and then helping prevent them.

Pressure injuries, commonly called bed sores, occur when patients are laying in bed or are immobile for a period of time. Pressure injuries are not only painful, but they affect the independence and quality of life of the patient as well. With an estimated 58 million pressure injuries globally, severe cases result in the death of 60,000 people every year in the US alone.

That’s why Mölnlycke has been so focused on this important area and has brought together some of the world’s leading experts to help drive global collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

The first step was to understand why pressure injuries occur and then conduct the first clinical studies to support this. Since those first studies, Mölnlycke has helped drive multiple collaborations around the world, with scientific advisory boards and partnering in further studies that have proved you can greatly reduce the incidence of pressure injuries.

With the right approach, studies have shown that between 70 and 85 per cent of pressure injuries are preventable. This has in many cases led to new protocols being initiated by hospitals and health care providers around the world.

Mölnlycke believes this demonstrates the true power of expert collaboration.
