Volvo Cars creates mobility solutions that aim to bring back the freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way.
Sharing knowledge inevitably leads to progress – and cars are no exception. This is particularly so when it comes to safety. Volvo Cars took a significant step forward in this field by making its industry-first connected safety system available across Europe and the US.
This ground-breaking technology allows the company’s cars to communicate with each other and alert other Volvo drivers of slippery road conditions and hazards nearby via a cloud-based network.
In Sweden and Norway, the system is established and has already proven its worth. Since 2018, Volvo Cars and Volvo Trucks in this region have been able to share data and alert drivers of nearby hazards. Volvo Cars also collaborates with authorities such as the Swedish Transport Administration, providing highly reliable data on road conditions gathered from Volvo vehicles. This data can then be used to inform drivers, minimise risk, and potentially prevent accidents.
Volvo Cars has also reiterated its invitation to the car industry to join the company in sharing anonymised traffic-safety-related data across car brands.
This technology means that Volvo owners can directly contribute to making roads safer for other drivers who have enabled the feature. Conversely, they also benefit by receiving early warnings of potentially dangerous conditions ahead. The more vehicles that share safety data in real time, the safer our roads become.
