Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ pioneering technologies efficiently integrate renewable energy into transmission and distribution grids, enabling access to clean energy for millions of people.

For one of the world’s largest single-site solar projects, Noor Abu Dhabi, Hitachi Power Grids supplies powerful ‘step-up’ transformers and power quality products connecting the photovoltaic (PV) plant to the Abu Dhabi grid, which supplies power for 90,000 people in Abu Dhabi. The optimised energy and cost-effective solutions were provided to Sterling and Wilson Solar, the project EPC.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids partners with Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) to integrate solar energy and support UAE’s clean energy ambition at one of the largest solar parks in the region. Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ state-of-the-art substation will boost transmission capacity and bring clean solar power to the people. The utility-scale solar PV plant will serve more than 130,000 people, displacing the need for fossil fuels and removing 250,000 tonnes of C02 emissions annually.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids will supply ANDRITZ Hydro with state-of-the-art technology for grid connection and stabilisation for a unique hydroelectric power plant currently under construction in the Hajar Mountains, 140 km southeast of Dubai.

The first-of-its-kind project in the UAE and Arabian Gulf, developed by DEWA, will provide up to 250 MW of clean, renewable, and flexible energy when commissioned in 2024.

Furthermore, through a strategic relationship with Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company (TRANSCO), Hitachi ABB Power Grids will deliver a first-of-its-kind substation-to-substation digital solution. The solution provides utilities with high-quality data for fast and efficient decision-making, enabling a safer work environment.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids supplies products and solutions to improve energy efficiency and offers electrical stability in the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa – an iconic building in the UAE with the power needs of a small town. Specially designed transformers are supplied for the tower with a flexible enclosure to fit in a tight space. The world’s highest located substation ensures reliable, safe power to everything from lighting and elevators to the ventilation, heating, and air conditioning system.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids will also provide the state-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) with high-performance grid stabilisation technology to help improve power quality and expand transmission capacity. The company will supply a 200 MVAR STATCOM, which comprises an integrated SVC Light® static compensator, power transformers, control, protection, and telecommunications system. In other words, power quality solutions for grid expansion and rural development in Egypt.
